My maid seems so despondent and stoic at times. Don't have the confidence to go back to work leaving my 5 months old son and 8 year old daughter in her care. I also think we are having cultural issues. We are both muslims, she is pious too but lacks effort in social relationships. She doesnt kiss the hand of elders, sometimes never salam anyone even and hardly speaks. Her face is so solemn most of the time. Today she burnt my baju raya which i have not even worn yet and just told me so. I dont know what i am hopping mad about now, the fact that my baju raya is burnt or the lack of manners she is showing. I have not said a word to her since. How should i aproach her to tell her to improve her manners and to take more pride in her work?
Please help
How to tackle an uninterested, quiet and non-initiative maid?
i believe it's best that you find a replacement. Honestly, in my case the reason for getting a maid is for me to have time for myself and my family, and also attend to my job. my rule of thumb is -if my maid is giving me headaches instead of help, and i dont feel at ease living my kids with her at home... if she's more of a worry, then i bid her goodbye... it's much better getting headaches from your kids than from your maid..dont u think so??
Reply:Lead by example.
Reply:kindly, openly, and with a desire to help her do better
Reply:best thing to do is go to the barrel and fetch out another one....that is , while getting rid of the one you have.
Reply:I'm not Muslim, so forgive me because I don't understand the culture, but how else are you supposed to let her know that her behavior is not something you like if you don't tell her? People can't read minds, and if she's socially void, I highly doubt she'd be reading, and understanding your body language. I'd just sit down and talk to her. If she doesn't change, fire her and hire another maid. But, also, perhaps you shouldn't have her there in the first place if you don't feel like you trust her enough to leave your kids with her. Perhaps a new maid is the best idea. If you don't want to fire her, then I think it'd be wise to talk to her otherwise her bad behavior will continue, and it will continue to get on your nerves. I hope that helps.
Ps. If you don't feel like confrontation you could write her a letter.
