A question about "house keeping" and maids for you. Once my wife had a good friend who was old and somewhat

handicaped. The lady had maid that came in once a week, on Thursday, I think, to clean her house. Well, one week, for some reason, her house was really a mess. So, she called my wife and asked her to come down on Wednesday to get things in order for the maid arrived. She did not want the maid to see the house in that condition! My question is --- Is that a normal thing that YOU might do? Would you ask a friend to get things in order before the maid arrives? My wife was glad to do it and seemed to completely understand. What do you think?

My mom has paid somone to come clean her house before, and she felt the need to clean up before they came. I thought it was crazy. But in her mind, she didn't want it to be a big mess, and the lady think badly of her. (It really wasn't that bad anyways). But my mom is VERY particular about what she thinks is clean, and about what people think of her house, and how clean it is. She gets alot of her self-esteem from that. She would not ask a friend to come clean it up though. She would stay up late, or do whatever to do it herself. I think that is normal for some people, just not me.
Reply:Well what a nice thing to do, for her friend...but trust me, the next time it is a mess, and she ask your wife again.........it will get to the point that she does not need a cleaner if she can get your wife to do the job......4 FREE...............
Reply:I think it all depends what the maid is contract to do. Meaning she might only be there to do "light" cleaning (toilets, mopping, vacuuming). I plan on shopping for someone to come in once a week and do light cleaning then once a month a deep clean. I'll make it very specific what I expect done on light cleaning and deep cleaning. Anyways, that might just be the agreement the two had.
Reply:ummm... thats why the maid gets paid wether there is 3 things on the floor or 300 but im glad your wife was happy to do it to help the maid b/c my mom is a house cleaner and shed appreciate it if the houses werent so messy
Reply:It seems a little odd, but perhaps, like the the girl above said, it's in their contract.

I can't imagine that it would matter though. Even if the maid a light cleaning contract, the fact that the house was a mess and the lady didn't want her to see it like that is probably a personal thing.

Older women and men sometimes get picky in what they do. My grandmother is a perfect example. Sometimes they just want things done their way. :]
Reply:I clean my house before the cleaning service comes but I'd rather they see it dirty than a friend.
Reply:Well as long as your wife was paid for cleaning the mess, then yes. But otherwise I would think that´s what the maid should do,or is the maid only there to make tea and answer the door.?
Reply:I used to help out a friend of mine who cleaned houses and she had several clients that felt that way. Usually they just wanted to have the clutter picked up before she came or the dishes washed and out of the sink. That way my friend and I could concentrate on things like the floors, windows and overall dusting.
