How old do you have to be to be best man/maid of honor?

My fiance' would like my nephew to be his best man (he will be 17 by the time of the wedding). Will this be OK? Because I know they have to sign a legal document.

THANKS

How old do you have to be to be best man/maid of honor?
as long as someone in the grooms side is 18 they can sign it doesnt have to be the best man congrats
Reply:I think you have to be 18 to be the witness.
Reply:You have to be 18 to sign the license, but he can still be the best man, just someone else will sign your paperwork.
Reply:I think you have to be at least 18. That's legal age in California is 18. I don't know where you live.
Reply:it is legal and it is OK
Reply:There is no age requirement, 17 works just fine. The document needs to be signed by two witnesses. Traditionally its the maid of honor and best man, but it can be signed by anyone who attended the ceremony.
Reply:any age is okay...but you try and keep it above like 15 or so. I know with bridesmaids you're considered a junior bridesmaid if you're under like 15 or 16.
Reply:I don't know what everyone is talking about, but I was 14 when I was my brother's best man in New York State. You can have anyone be the witness for the license, doesn't have to be your best man. Let your nephew do it and have someone else sign the license!
Reply:must be 18 to sign... but he can be any age to be the best man... CONGRATS!!!
Reply:I've never heard of an age limit for the best man or maid of honor. If a witness of the marital vows needs to provide a signiture I'm sure that job can fall to anyone else who was a guest that is 18+.
Reply:I was 16 as my sister's maid of honor. He doesn't have to be one of your witnesses, if his age is a problem.
Reply:The legal document as you put it, is not where your concerns should lie. At the end of the day, he is only stating that he was a witness to your wedding. If your concern is the legal aspect of your union, no document in the world will keep your marriage together. By the way, I have attended a wedding where a 12 year old was the best man.
Reply:Legally, they won't be able to sign the marriage license. You would need to have someone else do that for them, maybe your nephew's dad instead. However, you can have him standing up there next to you during the ceremony and he could be in charge of the rings.
Reply:at least 18 if they are going to sign the marriage lic. as witness, someone else can sign if they are not 18...
