Please tell me what you consider to be an old maid, Include your age if you don't mind.?

I'm getting married in two weeks for the first time. I'm 49. Never thought of myself as an old maid. My fiance, also never married, is 47. Never thought of him as an old maid, either.

Please tell me what you consider to be an old maid, Include your age if you don't mind.?
It's an old, outdated expression that comes from a time when women were considered incapable of getting along in life without a man. I don't think such a thing as an "Old Maid" exists anymore, outside of the minds of those women that THINK they can't get along without male companionship. I hate to see those women that are so obsessed with the concept of marriage that they don't pay attention to actually forming meaningful relationships with those people around them.

(I'm 22)
Reply:I really think the use of that word is passe. Women aren't so expected to get married and have a man take care of them, also MANY people are getting married later and later in live, like in their 60's and 70's. So, the short of it would be, I don't think there is any age I would consider a woman to be an old maid and the word itself is somewhat out-dated.

(I'm 24, not married but engaged)
Reply:My great-aunt was 93 when she passed away and had never married. I suppose I consider her an "old maid" although she had a great life. While she never had a husband or children, she traveled to places like Tokyo, the Great Wall, the Pyramids, and sailed on every ocean in the world. She was very close to her family and enjoyed such activities as teaching bridge and playing the stock market.

I am nearly 40 and am soon to marry my sweetheart of 2 years. Yes, we got together when I was 37. Yes, it can happen. No, I'm not an old maid, nor was I one three years ago.
Reply:Well, considering love doesn't have an age limit on and there have been some beautiful "golden marriages", I would consider someone to be an old maid if they are over the age of 50 and clean for a living...dig where I'm coming from.

And by the way, I'm close to that age myself.

NOW, a spinster was at one time considered an older woman whom had never married. But again, love has no age requirements. How old are YOU, and are you considering "jumping the broom"?
Reply:There's no such thing as an old maid. That's an ancient term for a woman past marriageable age, whatever that was in each society. Now a woman can marry whenever she wants, and certainly doesn't have to wait for marriage to have sex either.
Reply:Why are you even asking this question? You are NOT an old maid. In FACT, there is no such thing anymore, this is 2008. Grandmas are dating again, gays are out, and you are not an old maid!!!!!!!!!!!

I am 23 and a SINGLE mother of two with a "never" tattoo on my RING finger and have serious commitment issues. Believe me, if there is hope for me, there is hope for you!!
Reply:I am 45. I am married with 2 beautiful daughters - I don't consider myself an "old maid". Its more about whether you are happy with where you are in your life. I have many friends that are my age that are unmarried and living happy, fulfilled lives.
Reply:In victorian times a girl was consitered an old maid if she hadn't been married by 25 how ever even that viaried by wealth and class so even when the etrm was coined thier was no real straight answer, though in my family if you weren't married or had a kid by 21 your an old maid 'I'm 22 and getting married 09-15-08' no kids either :D
Reply:An old maid doesnt necessarily mean an old person (in my opinion anyway). To me it is someone who is extremely old fashioned and someone who still lives the way they did in the 50's. I am 30 by the way, but feel 20.
Reply:I think that is a pretty antiquated expression, however I could see myself using it perhaps when I'm 45 and have never been married. (24)
Reply:i'm 21 and married but i don't think there is such a thing i call an elderly unmarried woman intelligent lol
Reply:Could you define Old Maid first, as you see it, and then I can tell you how old you have to be to be one :D

lol
Reply:I'd like to think that "old maid" is an out dated term. (I'm 24)
Reply:well since 40 is the new 20... im goign to say 60. ( Im 23, the first time around)
Reply:Isn't that a kids card game?
Reply:only if you live in the 1800's
Reply:A popcorn kernel that doesnt pop!

Too old for you! Its your loss!
Reply:A over weight woman over 35 single with kids.
